From Haiti to the Dominican Republic

As we’ve been seeking God on where to deploy next, we were continually drawn to Haiti’s neighbor, the Dominican Republic. There are an estimated 1 million Haitians living in the Dominican Republic. Two of the Foursquare churches there are actually Haitian. So this past month, Matt did a scouting trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with the goal of connecting with those Haitian churches and also with the Foursquare Dominican Republic National Leader, Juan Carlos. We are now in the process of creating a 2 year plan of deployment to the Dominican Republic. During our time in the DR our focus will be on building relationships within the Haitian and Dominican Republic churches, continuing our Haitian Creole language skills and culture learning. Pastor Emmanuel of the Haitian church has voiced that many of the Haitian youth in the DR are not able to read or write and he would like assistance in developing a reading and writing program that his church is able to facilitate on their own as a sustainable model for years to come. The church will include spiritual development to disciple the youth. Right now, we are targeting being deployed to the Dominican Republic towards the end of this year.

See again Haiti!

Goodbye’s are never easy, but, as Philippians 3:14 says “we press on… towards the goal…”.  Matt and Anna had a quick trip into Haiti to say goodbye to our friends that we have made over the last 3 years and packed up our home at Ruuska Village. The future looks bright for Ruuska Village and another ministry has already reached out to Mr. Michel about utilizing the carpentry skills that he learned from Matt to build some shelves. Please join us in praying for his leadership and abundance in ministry. In God’s timing, we will return to Haiti.
