Santo Domingo… Home!

After a very fruitful time of furlough and ministry in the USA, we returned home to Santo Domingo with a group of American interns ready to deepen their relationship with Jesus, learn about Dominican Culture, and Partner with our local churches to provide English Language Camps for the children in their communities. Their 3-week internship with us kicked off with a week of intense Spanish Classes, preparing the English Lesson material, experiencing some of the rich cultures here in Santo Domingo, and personal/group daily devotionals. We then taught English classes at 2 of our churches. Roughly 150 children and a handful of adults joined the classes daily. At the end of the week, we also provided 1-day Conversational English classes at a 3rd church.

It’s important to us to partner with the local church. The ESL classes serve to draw interest in what was going on. This not only blesses the local church congregation, but also helps the pastors continue building evangelistic relationships within their communities. By the third day of outreach, kids were waiting in anticipation for our van to drive through the community and run after it to the church for classes.

When we origionally deployed to Haiti in December 2019, we held a drawing for our “Ticket to Go.” However, shortly afterward Covid shut down the world, and then the insecurity that ultimately forced us to relocate to Santo Domingo, forced us to postpone the drawings. In December 2023, we had our second drawing for a trip that included two airline tickets, lodging, and food for someone on our ministry support team to visit us. John and Crystal were the recipients and chose to bring 3 of their children as extras with them.  They partnered with the interns on the last three days of ESL classes and were a blessing to everyone. This was a dream come true for us, as we want to give back to those supporting our ministry financially. We genuinely value everyone on our ministry support team, and it is lovely to have them visit and learn about our daily lives, the churches that we are here to serve, and the people that are dear to our hearts.
